Understanding coloured orienteering maps; scale and distance; use of the compass to set the map; handrails and line features, simple route choice; keeping map contact and relocation; having more fun!

Section B: Orienteering - Going for it

Part 3: From light green to brown

Direction - types of compasses, rough compass, locating position, checking direction

Distance - Pace counting, pace scales for differing terrain

Landshape - contours, re-entrants, pits and depressions, form lines, gullies. Vegetation runnablity

Techniques - Cutting corners, aiming off, collecting features, attack points, minor handrails, short legs, long legs, route choices, when to walk, getting lost and relocation. Pictorial descriptions.
