The authors are well known in the field, both as educators and authors.

Carol McNeill's career in orienteering has paralleled that of the sport in Britain. Her 7th place in the World Championships in Finland in 1979 is still one of Britain's highest placings at this level. She won the World Veteran Women's Championships in 1986, 1994, 1999 and 2001.

She has developed her coaching experience and technical expertise at every level for 20 years.

As a teacher of physical educatrion in a Lake District school she has unrivalled experience in intra and extra curriculum orienteering with children of all ages. She is co-author of "Teaching Orienteering", "Start Orienteering" and "Orienteering - Skills of the Game".

Jim Martland was Director of the NCF/Liverpool University Research Project into Developing Children's Navigational Skills.

Peter Palmer was the British Orienteering Federation's first director of coaching. Now retired, he taught in secondary schools for 30 years. He has taught at numerous courses and clinics in the UK and abroad. He has wide experience of planning and organising major national and international competitions.

He edited the current BOF "Complete Manual for Coaches". Other oublications include "The Coaching Collection", "Orienteering: Pathways to Excellence", (with Carol McNeill) "Orienteering for the Young".
