A love letter to the Campsie Fells

by Leanne Wrightson (She/Her) - HARVEY Maps Ambassador

We have some great Ambassadors working with us at HARVEY Maps and they are always keen to tell us about the places they have been to and the maps they have enjoyed using. For Leanne, she has fond memories of adventure in her old stomping ground, and when we released the latest Campsie Fells & Kilpatrick Hills Ultramap, she couldn't wait to get her hands on a copy!

Tell us why you enjoy nature and the outdoors so much
When people hear the word adventure, they often think of faraway mountains and epic expeditions. Sometimes though, it's waiting just outside the front door.

To me, adventure isn't measured in summits or distances but in exploration and connection with nature. Slowing down is the key. Life can feel chaotic, and I have a tendency to rush through it, but when I'm in the hills, I'm reminded to take my time and it feels restorative and meaningful.

How well do you know the Campsie Fells?
For almost ten years the Campsie Fells and Kilpatrick Hills were my local hills. There's a lot of comfort in returning to well-trodden paths. Repeating the same enormous hill climb to the peaty loch. Sending it down the switchbacks on my trusty hardtail. Or watching the lights flicker in the familiar towns below me as I bivvy.

There were days where I wanted to do the same loop on my bike so I could truly switch off and be engrossed in my surroundings or spotting any of my favourite flora. Other times I'd be craving something that felt new to me so I would find a spot on a map to explore and get myself there on foot or by bike. Most of the time I'd be wild camping and allow myself to sit for hours pinpointing landmarks and peaks on my map. This is unbelievably restful for me.

Local adventures have taught me to feel at home in both familiar and unfamiliar places and finding stillness in each. I'd encourage everyone to explore their local hills.
